Excerpt from the Fort Bliss Monitor:

"Native Americans have served with distinction in the U.S. military more than 200 years. Their courage, determination and fighting spirit has been recognized by military leaders throughout the country?s history.
'Members of our tribe have served in World War II, [the] Korean War, [the] Vietnam War, [and] the two wars in Iraq and in Afghanistan,' said Rick Quezada, guest speaker for the event. Quezada is an enrolled tribal member of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo, and a former war captain ? a role in which he provided spiritual and traditional guidance to the tribe.

Quezada added that members of his tribe have served as scouts for the U.S. Cavalry, having lived in El Paso more than 300 years."
